JTR Motorsports completed another weekend of Porsche Carrera Cup North America competition at Watkins Glen International, with Jared Thomas leading the way with a pair of solid performances while teammate Rob Walker endured a difficult outing in the Masters class. The team fielded two entries at the historic New York road course, with Thomas competing in the Pro class and Walker representing JTR Motorsports in the Masters category.
Thomas opened the weekend with one of his strongest drives of the season in Race One. After battling among the front-runners throughout the event, he crossed the finish line in fourth, narrowly missing out on a podium finish while collecting valuable championship points. Walker was unfortunately involved in a turn one, lap one crash that severely damaged his JTR Porsche.
Race Two saw Thomas once again battle inside the top-ten, bringing home a sixth-place finish to cap off a consistent weekend for the JTR Motorsports driver. Walker returned to the grid for Sunday’s race but was forced to retire after just two laps, ending his tough weekend prematurely.
“There are definitely positives to take away from Watkins Glen,” explained Dave Thomas. “Having Jared finish fourth in Race One showed we have the speed to fight near the front, even though coming that close to a podium always leaves you wanting a little more. Race Two wasn’t quite the result we were aiming for, but we’ll take the points and continue building. It was also unfortunate to see Rob have such a difficult weekend because everyone on this team works incredibly hard. We’ll regroup, keep improving, and turn our attention to the next challenge.”
Following another competitive weekend in Porsche Carrera Cup North America, JTR Motorsports looks forward to carrying valuable experience into its upcoming Mazda MX-5 Cup program north of the border. The team will now shift its focus from Porsche competition to the Whelen Mazda MX-5 Cup, as the team prepares for the next championship round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on July 10-12. The Canadian circuit marks the team’s next opportunity to continue building momentum during a busy summer stretch of racing.
